By Ryan Theoret
This Good Turn Week (April 25th – May 3rd) London area Scout Groups including the 80th Beaver Scouts, Cubs Scouts, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers in accompany with the City Of London, schools and businesses will be Building an observation deck in Westmount Park (196 Mc Master Drive). The deck will be built looking over a storm pond that is visited frequently by ducks, geese, hawks and other wildlife, the deck will also provide a tranquil place for people to come and relax and enjoy the already peaceful park.
They will also be adding armour stones for sitting and relaxing and planting natural grasses, flowers, trees, shrubs and bushes to improve the diversity of plants in the park and create more nesting opportunities for all the different species of birds that visit the park.
This is a great Good Turn Week project because it will allow the wildlife to flourish and it will also create a beautiful place for people to stop and enjoy the park.
Good Turn Week is a great opportunity to get out in the community and do something good! Studies have shown that preforming an act of kindness has the power to create feelings of happiness, both with the giver and the recipient. It doesn’t take much to make a positive impact it can be as simple as buying the coffee for the next person in line, or holding the door for someone.
Good Turn Week is our chance to remind Canadians that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a powerful difference.
Great things happen in communities across Canada when our members put their hearts and minds behind Good Turn Week. It starts with Scouts.
