The Great Scouts Collection Blitz 2015
1st Torbay Scouts Group, Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador
By Shanlee Mitchell
Over the years, Good Turn Week community projects have been positively impacting their local communities by providing assistance and provisions for those in need. This year’s Good Turn Week is happening this April 25th to May 3rd and Scouts Canada once again has sponsored some great Good Turn Week community projects.
The 1st Torbay Scout Group is one of the many Groups who were selected as a National Good Turn Week project. Their project, ‘The Great Scout Collection Blitz’ was started when a couple of Cub Scouts asked why they only did food banks around Christmas time if people were hungry all the time. This got their Group thinking and they came up with the idea of, ‘The Great Scout Collection Blitz’!
During Good Turn Week members of the 1st Torbay Scout Group will be setting up at various locations throughout the community collecting non-perishables, clothes, books and pet supplies. Groups, individuals and businesses can all participate in this challenge by dropping off donations on Saturday May 2nd at the Holy Trinity Elementary School.
So how can you participate in Good Turn Week? All you have to do is do a #GoodTurn for someone else! You can hold the door open for someone, shovel your neighbour’s driveway or buy a coffee for the person behind you — the possibilities are endless. Even the smallest of Good Turns have the power to help shape and change the world.
Canadians are encouraged to share their good turns on Scouts.ca/goodturn, on Facebook at facebook.com/scoutscanada or on Twitter by tweeting @ScoutsCanada using the #GoodTurn.
Remember, Good Turn Week is all about people coming together within a community to build a stronger and happier one. So why not get involved and help Scouts Canada celebrate Good Turn Week — April 25th to May 3rd.
Great things happen in communities across Canada when our members put their hearts and minds behind Good Turn Week. It starts with Scouts.
