58th Thorncliffe Scouts
Dates: May 6
Time: 9am — 11:30am
Location: : Resource Sorting Centre (Mustard Seed)
The 58th Thorncliffe Scouts will be volunteering with the Mustard Seed to sort through donations on May 6th. They are excited to give back to their community and participate in the 2017 Good Turn Week. The Mustard Seed receives a wide variety of donations, such as, toiletries, clothes, and other necessities, that they need help sorting into different categories. A group of 20-30 individuals from as young as six years old are going to help them with the sorting and also purchase other donations for the shelter.
The youth are going to be budgeting the money and choosing the items they should purchase. They prioritize the needs from the wants, and decide which ones are the biggest necessities. They are excited to lead an activity that will have a great impact on the community and to also help the Mustard Seed, who is always helping others. They will be helping people who are not as fortunate as they are, by providing them with basic necessities. They want to encourage everyone in the community to do a good turn that can make a difference in their family’s, friend’s or neighbour’s life.
Through this project, the youth are learning how a small thing can make a big difference in their community. They have the power to help others and inspire the recipients to pay it forward. While helping their community, the Scouts are also being educated on the reality of the society they live in, and the difference in the lives of the people around them from their own. This is a great learning opportunity for them and by demonstrating excellent team work skills, they are able to also brighten someone’s day.
