May 6 – Oppenheimer Park, in front of a local charity called The Door is Open (255 Dunlevy Avenue, Vancouver, BC)
Our 4th Northview Venturers will be organizing a clothing drive that will provide warmth to those in need during Scouts Canada’s Good Turn Week. Donations will be directly helping the residents of Downtown Eastside, Vancouver, which is considered the most impoverished area in all of Canada.
This community project will begin in early April with Cubs, Scouts and Venturers from 4th Northview distributing flyers to inform the community about our clothing drive. On Saturday April 29th, we will be going door-to-door collecting donated items from residents. We will sort all the donations from 1-5pm at the Willingdon Heights United Church. Partnering local organization who has helped Downtown Eastside, Vancouver for more than 30 years, ‘The Door Is Open’, our Venturer Company will be distributing clothes and blankets at Oppenheimer Park on Saturday May 6th from 1-4pm.
People often take dressing warm and according to the weather for granted. However, there are people in our community who are not as fortunate and do not have access to warm clothing. This is a common reality for the residents of Downtown Eastside, Vancouver. We know how cold and rainy our city can get and we hope that our good turn will provide clothing and blankets to those in need so they can stay warm and dry throughout the year. Our project also aims to raise awareness about poverty and to encourage our community to take care of those in need.
Our Venturer Company is very excited to participate in Good Turn Week by doing our own good turn and hopefully we can inspire others to do the same.
