9th St. Thomas Scout Group – Troop
Dates: April 29
Time: 10am — 12:30pm
Location: Commercial – Broadway Skytrain Station, Vancouver
The 9th St. Thomas Scouts Group is excited to continue their good turn from last year for Scouts Canada’s 8th annual Good Turn Week. On April 29th, 2017, they will be handing out Scouts Canada umbrellas to the community to protect them from the unpredictable weather of Vancouver. They will be outside Commercial-Broadway Station in Vancouver, British Columbia from 10am-12:30pm.
The Scouts Troop decided to do this project because with our unpredictable weather, no one is ever really prepared for the rain and they have to stand outside during the late April showers without an umbrella. Everyone has experienced this at some point and with our Good Turn Week project, we hope they remember that and pass the umbrella along to others in need.
Tony Mark, the Lead Scouter of the 9th St. Thomas Scouts Troop, says that the goal of the Share Forever Umbrella Project is to “promote kindness, sharing and consideration of others.” This project is organized and carried out by the youth. They will be setting up the station to hand out umbrellas on April 29th and they will also be the ones handing out the umbrellas to the public. During last year’s Good Turn Week project, local Member of Parliament, Jenny Kwan, showed up and began handing out umbrellas and engaging with the public as well. The project was a big success and the Group gave away all their umbrellas, putting a smile on everyone’s face. This year, rain or shine, they will be handing out their umbrellas, showing everyone that simple acts of kindness can go a long way. They hope this will inspire the recipients of the umbrellas to pay it forward and give away their umbrella to someone else in need.
