Providing Help — Providing Hope
1st MacDonald Drive, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
By Tia Layne
The 1st MacDonald Drive Beavers, Cubs and Scouts along with their Scouters from St. John’s, Newfoundland are providing help and hope to local families as part of their Good Turn Week community project. They will be working with the Bridges to Hope charity to purchase and provide healthy food for families in need. The project will be providing local families with healthy snacks that their children can take to school ensuring they are nourished for their day of learning.
On April 29th, 2015, the MacDonald Drive Group will be going to purchase nutritious snacks like yogurt, fresh produce, cereal packages and real fruit juice boxes from the local Sobey’s. They will be packaging the snacks into bags for local families to last each family at least one week or 5 days of healthy snacking at school. Not only is the MacDonald Drive Group providing healthy snacks for local families, they are also working hard to do Good Turns in other parts of their community.
The Group will also been doing an environmental cleanup, visiting local Veterans, volunteering at the community food bank and more! The 1st MacDonald Drive Group would like to challenge Scouting members and every Canadian citizen to do a random act of kindness or a simple Good Turn for someone during Good Turn Week (April 25th to May 3rd). You can post about your Good Turn on Twitter, Facebook or the Scouts Canada website using the hashtag #GoodTurn.
Great things happen in communities across Canada when our members put their hearts and minds behind Good Turn Week. It starts with Scouts.
