One for the Books in Cochrane, Ontario
1st Cochrane Scout Group, Cochrane, Ontario
Big things are happening in Cochrane, Ontario with the 1st Cochrane Scout Group as they prepare to launch their book share program for Scouts Canada’s Good Turn Week. Their goal is to allow youth and adults to always have access to books, 24 hours a day.
CGV Builders and the 1st Cochrane Scout group are building Book Share Repositories. The Good Turn Week book share boxes will be placed in strategic locations across the town on municipal property and filled with books donated by the Cochrane Public Library. The book share operates on the honour system — if you borrow a book, you can return that book (or a different one) to any of the Repositories. The Book Share program launches in May with 10 boxes and in June, residents will be able to host a book share box on their property. The 1st Cochrane hopes to see their Good Turn Week project continue to grow in the months to come.
This partnership between the Town of Cochrane, the Cochrane Public Library, CGV Builders, and the 1st Cochrane Scout Group shows how wonderful things can happen in a community when people work together and are willing to do a Good Turn for others. You can follow along with the project through the “1st Cochrane Scout Group” Facebook page.
You can find inspiration for your own Good Turn and encourage others to do the same by sharing your Good Turn Week experiences on twitter using #GoodTurn, following Scouts Canada on Facebook, or visiting Scouts.ca/goodturn.
Great things happen in communities across Canada when our members put their hearts and minds behind Good Turn Week. It starts with Scouts.
