YSPs – Eastern Ontario Region
Dates: April 29
Location: Rochester Heights Community House (299 Rochester Street)
The Rochester Heights Community Gardens Project is an initiative by Scouts Canada’s Youth Spokespersons from around the Ottawa area. Taking place at The Rochester Heights Community House (299 Rochester St.), we will be building a community garden for local community members and residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables. On Saturday, April 29th at 10am, Scouting youth, parents and Community House staff will begin building a wonderful gardening space for the whole community.
The Scouting youth wanted to participate in Scouts Canada’s Good Turn Week this year by doing their own good turn that would positively benefit their community. They wanted to bring people together to take part in something that will give them a sense of satisfaction and a way for them to enjoy locally grown garden food. This garden will also transform the outside of the Rochester Heights Community House into one that will be visually appealing and beautiful to look at once the plants start to bloom. The community garden will have a lasting positive impact on the surrounding residents because it is something they can enjoy forever. The Community House has been wanting to install a community garden for a while and now working together, we are able to build a garden for the entire community to enjoy.
