YSPs – Prairies Region
Dates: May 7
Time: 12 noon — 4pm
Location: Shouldice Park
On Sunday, May 7th from 12pm – 4pm, Calgary Scouts and Venturers will be hosting a Bike Tune up Day at Shouldice Park for Scouts Canada’s Good Turn Week. The Scouts and Venturers will be helping Calgarians prepare for the upcoming cycling season. This will include, pumping up flat tires, greasing chains and adjusting bike seats.
After we have helped get their bike into a better and safer working conditions, the Scouts will continue to help ensure cyclists know how to be safe on the roads. They will show them how to make sure their helmet fits properly, educate them on how to share the roads with cars and how to use the bike paths safely. Calgary Scouts are hoping that this will encourage everyone to fix their bikes so that they can get out and be more active. This will have a positive impact on the community because it will show people how to be safer when riding their bikes, both for themselves and the drivers, and also encourage them to get fresh air and exercise. By teaching people that they should be maintaining their bikes, they can have fun with family and friends in the warmer cycling seasons.
The youth will be fixing bikes, teaching bike safety and running the events. We hope that people can share their experiences and help others be prepared for the cycling season. The Scouts would like to show the youth how easy it is to help someone, how one action has the possibility to start a continuous cycle of good deeds.
