1st Kingston Scouts — All Sections
Dates: May 6
Time: 10am — 1pm
Location: Atlantic Superstore (Kingston, NS) Walmart (Greenwood, NS) Sobeys (Greenwood, NS)
The 1st Kingston Scouts are counting the days until May 6th so they can help make a difference in their community. As their 2017 Good Turn Week project, they have chosen to help the environment, through first, helping the bees. They want to make a significant, positive impact on their community, and inspire others to pay it forward and do their own good turn.
Over the last few weeks, the Scouts have been planning and preparing for their event to help the bees. Brainstorming ideas on how they can get the entire community involved, they came up with the project, Bee Prepared. They will be handing out packages of wildflower seeds to members of their community at the local Superstore (Kingston, NS), Walmart (Greenwood, NS) and Sobeys (Greenwood, NS) from 10am – 1pm on May 6th. They will be encouraging the recipients to plant the seeds in their yards and gardens to help the bee’s population. By helping the bees, you are also helping the environment. You plant flowers, the flowers help the bees, the bees help the farmers, and the farmers grow your food. This is a great project that proves beneficial for multiple parties.
The youth involved in this project have been working hard to create the messaging and artwork on the seed packages. They have been creating posters and other informative materials to educate the public on the importance of bees. The youth want to educate the community on the crucial role bees play in the entire society. The Scouts will hand out 5000 packages of seeds on May 6th to anyone at the grocery stores. They also encourage everyone to continue to plant seeds in their gardens to start making a difference in their community.
You can track the progress of the event on twitter by following the hashtag, #Bee_Prepared. You can also tweet your own flowers, seeds and gardens, to join in on the project that will help make the community a little brighter.
