2nd Russell Scout Group — All Sections
Dates: April 29
Time: 9am — 1pm
Location: Good Neighbour’s Food Bank
For the second year in a row the 2nd Russell Scout Group will be participating Scouts Canada’s Good Turn Week by volunteering for a food drive on April 29th. Their goal is to collect two tonnes of non-perishable food to support the Good Neighbour’s Food Bank. To help the 2nd Russell Scout Group achieve their goal, they will be partnering with St. Andrew’s Church, Paul’s United Church, the Russell Lion’s Club, grocery stores, the Girl Guides and the Good Neighbours Food Bank.
They will be collecting food items and monetary donations from their neighbourhood in order to reach their goal. The Beavers will also be creating birthday boxes, which will allow less fortunate youth, a chance to enjoy their birthday. Scouts want to help with this project because they want to do something for their local foodbank and their community. There is a shortage of donations to foodbanks in the spring, but families are still in need. The foodbank staff will be coming in to educate the Scouts on the importance of the foodbank and how much their donations and help can make a difference.
The youth are very excited to participate in this food drive because they saw the difference it made in the community when they did it last year. This year, they have more volunteers so they have worked with the Lion’s Club to create updated maps of more areas to canvas for donations. With more volunteers, they are able to visit more houses and areas collecting donations, creating a greater positive impact on the community.
We look forward to seeing 2nd Russell achieve their goal of two tonnes of non-perishable food items to support this worthy cause.
