Assistant Activity Coordinator

Scouts Canada, in collaboration with St. Joseph Coptic Orthodox Church in Ottawa, is thrilled to launch an innovative partnership designed to enrich youth through an exciting summer camp Adventurer’s Club Program. This six-week initiative aims to develop a broad range of skills in young people, promoting spiritual, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving growth. The program offers age-specific activities to guarantee engaging adventures, the formation of meaningful friendships, and a commitment to ongoing learning and self-improvement within a faith-based community.

The Assistant Activity Coordinator will support the Activity Coordinator in delivering a dynamic and safe summer camp experience. This role is pivotal in facilitating outdoor adventure programming, overseeing daily activities, and ensuring that all operations align with health and safety standards. The Assistant Activity Coordinator will help in creating an environment where campers can enjoy adventurous activities, build friendships, and develop new skills. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and willing to undergo a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing daily camp activities in accordance with the program plans.
  • Support the Activity Coordinator in supervising campers, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
  • Help in coordinating with the Ottawa Coptic Church Summer Camp staff for seamless program delivery.
  • Be a positive role model for campers, promoting the mission, vision, and values of Scouts Canada.
  • Assist in preparing materials and equipment for activities, ensuring all resources are ready and available as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Activity Coordinator.

 

 Competencies Required:

  • 2 years to 3 years of summer camp program experience (4 months - 6 months).
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Certification
  • Enthusiastic and energetic, and committed to fostering a positive camp environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Alignment with the Mission Principles and Practices of Scouts Canada.
  • Experience in leading outdoor activities and working in a camp environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.

 

Working Conditions

  • A Police Record Check (PRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS) are required before the start date.
  • Mandatory training requirement.
  • Fixed-term role from June to August 2024.
  • Physical tasks involve moderate lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Role requires on-site presence, with an 8-hour daily commitment.
  • Some exposure to environmental conditions (rain, heat and cold).
  • Moderate travel required to deliver and execute programs.
     

Additional Information:

Location: Ottawa
Camp duration: 6 weeks.
Summer Camp Dates: 8th July – 17th August
Additional training will be provided prior to the start of camp.
